Sandtex Trade 365 All Weather Masonry Paint

All Weather Masonry Paint specified for coastal decoration project

  • 22 Dec 2016

Crown Paints Specification Services has worked with Waveney District Council to re-decorate St. Peter’s Court, a 15-storey flat block in the coastal town of Lowestoft, using Sandtex Trade 365 All Weather Masonry Paint.

The team met with the Suffolk-based local authority to carry out a site inspection, which resulted in the specification of Sandtex Trade 365 All Weather Masonry Paint.

Formulated with Pliolite Resin, the paint is able to withstand adverse weather conditions all year round, making it suitable for application in coastal environments. It offers BBA certification and 15 years of durability, with remarkable adhesion.

Whilst it was deemed the most appropriate solution to protect the easterly tower block from the natural elements it is exposed to, Crown Paints Specification Services held a consultation with St. Peter’s Court’s residents to discuss colour schemes and decoration choices.

Work on site was carried out by the CLC Group; the project was completed over an eight-week period. Applying the paint by brush and roller, the team made use of mast climbers to hoist themselves up and down the height of the building.

Despite the poor weather conditions at the time of application, they reported no effect on the finish of the paint, or the decorating process itself.

Brewers, which was responsible for the supply of the paint, delivered new tins daily; as a total of 3,600 litres were used, limited space was available for storage. At the end of each day, the empty tins were taken away for recycling.

The re-decoration has served to modernise the building and transform its surrounding area. As the tower block is visible from the other side of Lowestoft, the project has had a reaching effect on the aesthetic appeal of the town.

Since the completion of the project, Crown Paints has created and donated a bench, manufactured from the recycled paint cans, to the residents of the high-rise block.
