After nine years of fund-raising by the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, a £15.7 million Remembrance Centre has finally opened.
Leading provider of aluminium glazing systems, Reynaers, has installed aluminium window and door systems in a beautiful bronzed anodised finish, at the centre.
330 memorials sit across a 150-acre site with 30,000 trees at the Royal British Legion’s Arboretum at Alrewas.
Reynaers’ CW 60 modular curtain walling, Vision 50 door system, ES 50 Eco System door, CS 68-HV Hidden Vent Window and CS 77 doors have been used at the new centre, built by contractors Stepnell with Wintech Ltd as consultant.
It was designed by the prestigious Glenn Howells Architects with the hope that the new centre will attract hundreds of thousands of new visitors, with a large restaurant and shop, separate coffee shop and courtyard with garden.
Glenn Howells Architects were briefed to provide larger and higher quality facilities that included flexible and efficient spaces for interpretation, education, catering and retail, according to Michael Kendrick, Project Architect.
The large glazed openings create an appropriate mood for the spaces and the bronze anodised finish tones in with the warmth of the timber frame and cladding, he added, providing a warm and inviting space for people.
According to Rebecca Cope, through a unique Memory Booth, people will have the opportunity to record and upload their own stories to a new national archive. Visitors will also be able to enjoy a sensory play garden full of textures, scented foliage and natural materials.
She explained that Reynaers is proud to have the project on it’s portfolio of energy efficient and aesthetically pleasing buildings.
