Aggregate Industries relaunches LytaScreed

With the relaunch of LytaScreed, Aggregate Industries is consolidating its revolutionary Lytag offer. 

Floor coverings in residential, commercial and civil projects are provided with an environmentally friendly floor screed solution, by LytaScreed, that is incredibly quick and easy.

The range features two product variants, designed to drastically increase on-site efficiencies with its exceptionally fast drying times. A semi dry floor screed is offered as part of the LytaScreed base option, suitable for non-sensitive flooring coverings, such as where wood or tiles are laid in just 72 hours.

On the other hand, completed with a 15mm sand cement topping, LytaScreed creates a semi dry floor screed that is suitable for all sensitive floor coverings in just five days.

Futhermore, LytaScreed is made from Lytag, a lightweight aggregate that reduces the weight of a screed by up to 50% and, being a secondary aggregate, saves on natural resources. Therefore there is greater flexibility in design, reduced landfill and more sustainable construction.

Aggregate Industries General Manager, Steve Curley said that Lytag lightweight aggregate has broken boundaries when it comes to aiding efficiency and lessening environmental impact in modern construction practice. This coupled with exceptionally fast drying times, makes for one of the most efficient and versatile options now on the UK market, he added.

Lytag has been in production for more than 50 years, made from the fly ash generated by coal fired power stations. The fly ash is transformed into small round pellets by the revolutionary technology. The pellets are then heated to 1,100°C.

Consequently, very hard pellets with a honeycombed internal structure of interconnecting voids are created within the aggregate, therefore making it both lightweight and robust.

Rounded in shape and ranging in size from 14mm down to fines, the pellets can then be used as a superior, consistent, lightweight aggregate that is up to 40 per cent lighter than natural aggregate.

Lytag material has been utilised across various commercial and residential projects of all sizes, including concrete floor slabs in The Shard, The Leadenhall Building and most recently has been specified as part of the 22 Bishopsgate ‘skyscraper’ in London, becoming the tallest building in the city.
