'Health, Wellbeing and Productivity' CPD from Armstrong Ceilings

Building ‘Health, Wellbeing and Productivity’ tackled in Armstrong CPD

  • 3 Jun 2016

Armstrong Ceilings has announced its new, industry-focused and RIBA-approved ‘Health, Wellbeing and Productivity’ CPD.

Armstrong’s new CPD has been designed to explain how factors such as market drivers, building design and construction can have an impact on occupant health, wellbeing and productivity.

It meets the RIBA CPD core curriculum subjects of ‘designing’ and ‘building’, which covers construction, technology and engineering, on a general knowledge level.

‘Health, Wellbeing and Productivity’

The CPD places an emphasis on user-centred interior design, which can have a positive impact on an occupant’s wellbeing. The process is described as an ‘evolution of conventional design’: the project is approached by a whole design team simultaneously, instead of individual team members working on separate parts.

User-centred interior design ensures that all options can be considered and improved, whilst the divided nature of conventional design prevents team members from considering the development, and how people may interact with it, as a whole.

The CPD considers how the use of low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) materials can improve the environment, and how the use of Phase Change Material (PCM) ceilings can enhance internal temperature, via energy-saving materials.

The CPD also discusses how ceiling systems can be tailored to meet the acoustic requirements of varying spaces and harvest natural light. It also explains how they can deliver green building credits, such as BREEAM, Ska and LEED; old ceiling tiles can be recycled, and all three schemes offer rewards for this.

A number of case studies will be drawn upon to demonstrate how ceiling solutions have been used to deliver improved wellbeing in education and healthcare environments.
