Roadchef opens Changing Places facility

Motorway Service Area operator, Roadchef, has announced the opening of a Changing places facility at its Norton Canes site, on the M6 Toll.

The new Changing Places facility will provide customers with specialist equipment and more space than is available in a conventional disabled facility, representing a significant investment by Roadchef.

The 12m2 room features a peninsular WC, height-adjustable adult-sized changing bench, height-adjustable washbasin and a ceiling track hoist, installed by Clos-o-Mat.

Simon Turl, Roadchef CEO explained: “We’re delighted to now be able to meet the needs of all people with a disability and we look forward to welcoming customers who are now able to take advantage of this facility.”

Changing Places campaigner, Tony lough MBE, commented: “Changing places mean that families like mine, with someone who needs help with intimate care, can venture away from home and relax.”

Almost 1000 Changing Places toilets have been opened across the UK since their introduction almost a decade ago. Under British Standards, a Changing Places is in addition to conventional (Building Regulations Document M) wheelchair accessible toilets, and provides 12m2, with additional equipment including an adult-sized height adjustable changing bench and ceiling track hoist.

Clos-o-Mat provides in-house, ‘one-stop-shop’ complete package for ‘away from home’ assisted accessible toilet facilities, from design and commissioning, through to project management, supply and installation, and can also provide subsequent maintenance and repair.
