Kee Safety has amended its Kee Gate range to ensure compliance with the new requirements of BS EN ISO 14122-3:2016.
The revised BS EN ISO 14122-3:2016 standard sets the requirements for safety of mobile and stationary machinery, where stepladders, guardrails, stairs, or other means of permanent access are necessary.
It states that a guardrail should be fitted when the height of a fall could exceed 500mm; the specified guardrail needs to meet a number of dimensional requirements and a self-closing gate should also be used.
To maintain its compliance with the standard, Kee Safety has modified the design of its Kee Gate range of safety gates.
Suitable for internal and external use, Kee Gate can be implemented on ladder and stair access points, as well as roof hatches, walkways, and roof tops. It offers a preferable safety solution to chains, bars and sliding tubes.
Kee Safety manufactures the Kee Gate from galvanised steel, with the option of powder coating it in safety yellow to individual specification.
A larger D bend has been implemented to close the gap between the bottom rail of the gate and floor, whilst maintaining full width adjustability.
Kee Safety has also added a mid rail, minimising the gap between the top of the gate and the bottom rail.
The modified gate is 668mm high and 1m wide; its mid rail is positioned 467mm from the top rail, whilst its bottom rail is raised 434mm from the floor. It is available with standard ‘U’ bolts, suitable for fixing uprights of 33.7mm, 42.4mm and 48.3mm; Kee Safety’s additional fixing pack enables fixings to square, flat or angle uprights.
The gates are also spring loaded, ensuring that they automatically close behind the user to protect against human error.
These modifications ensure complete BS EN ISO 14122-3:2016 compliance. The gate also meets the requirements of EN 13374 Class A, and is CE marked to EN 1090.
The range’s durability and resistance to wear and corrosion has been guaranteed through various salt spray, life cycle and abuse testing.
