Novus develops first Thistle Express Hotel in London

  • 31 Jul 2017

Novus Property Solutions has fulfilled a contract to transform a Luton-based building into a Thistle Express Hotel, the first in a new chain from glh Hotels.

Prior to being taken over by glh Hotels, the 10-storey building had been closed and unoccupied for a long period of time. The company issued a £4 million refurbishment, following blueprints by architects Unwin Jones Partnership and interior designers Faber Design.

The development was carried out by a team of 40 operatives from Novus Property Solutions, over an eight-month period.

Novus carried out upgrades to the M&E infrastructure of the existing building, which was also re-roofed using the Triflex system. Because of the lack of internal lifts, the team had find alternate ways to gain access to the building’s external elevations.

Novus contracted a specialist company to use abseiling techniques to carry out the works according to the agreed schedule. An external hoist and scaffold arrangement was installed, and the company took out a window on each floor to enhance access.

Bearing the building’s neighbours in mind, the team delivered pre-start letters to the community, explaining the various elements of the project. This correspondence was followed up with regular communication throughout the development.

‘The fact that we haven’t had a single complaint from any of the local residents is testament to the care and attention taken by the team,’ adds Jeremy Ford, strategic operations manager at Novus Property Solutions.

Inside, the public areas were reconfigured to create a new kitchen, breakfast room, and communal space, whilst the bedrooms, corridors, and ancillary areas were refurbished according to the new Thistle Express branding.

Boasting a lime green and grey colour scheme, the hotel will be used as a benchmark of quality for the other hotels in the chain.
