  • 28 Sep 2017

Recofloor has named the three winners of its annual Summer promotion, which was held designed to encourage more flooring companies to recycle their waste vinyl flooring.

The lucky trio of winners were MacGregor Flooring Company Ltd of Hamilton, Manchester based Branagan Flooring Services and Hull’s S&D Flooring Ltd, each winning a £100 Red Letter Days gift voucher.

On behalf of MacGregor Flooring Company Ltd, Managing Director Hamish MacGregor commented: “It’s nice to win something for a change! I’ve always felt that recycling is the way to go and as Recofloor members, we always try to recycle vinyl flooring where we can.”

Kate Branagan, Managing Director of Branagan Flooring Services said the prize had been given to their warehouse manager John Scott, who deals with the Recofloor collections, adding: “I feel that he deserves it.The larger volume of collections throughout the summer months is mainly due to the large amount of school and university work we do.”

Steve Dixon, Managing Director of S&D Flooring Ltd, also said a hard working employee would receive the prize. He added: “Working with Recofloor and recycling our waste vinyl flooring over the last couple of years has been great for improving our sustainability performance.

Every flooring company raising a Recofloor collection throughout August who returned a minimum of either two full bulk bags or a full blue bin qualified for the prize draw. More than 38 tonnes were sent for recycling – a 31% increase on July’s 26 tonnes.

Launched eight years ago by leading flooring manufacturers Polyflor and Altro, over 3,400 tonnes of waste vinyl flooring has been recycled through Recofloor, the equivalent to well over one million square metres of flooring, enough to cover 138 football pitches.

Recofloor’s Project Officer Joe Gardner added: “Once again our August promotion proved very popular with Recofloor members who contributed to a 31% increase in the volume of waste vinyl flooring sent for recycling that month.
