Mitsubishi Electric has supplied a new R32 air conditioning system for a major building at the Division of Biosciences at University College London.
The Division features in the striking, seven-storey Rockefeller Building on University Street, home to the original University College Hospital Medical School.
UCL’s Division of Biosciences has an substantial international reputation, with a cohort of over 500 staff and 300 PhD students partaking in cutting edge research.
The College sought a speedy and efficient heating and cooling system, which had to meet UCL’s environmental requirements; this led to Mitsubishi Electric’s M Series MSZ-LN emerged as the understandable choice, due to the vital role the R32 refrigerant will play in meeting future legislation and reducing the environmental impact of air conditioning, heat pumps and refrigeration.
Building Services Manager at UCL Estates,vKeith Kerridge, commented: “The Rockefeller building required an extra air conditioning system on one of its floors and we were impressed with what Mitsubishi Electric’s system could offer.
“We wanted a system that would provide a comfortable working environment for our staff and students, as well as being environmentally friendly. The M Series MSZ-LN suits our needs perfectly.”
The pair of attractive air conditioning units were installed over 72 hours by Artic Building Services and have become the first R32 systems in UCL’s estate.
The quick installation period was essential, as it ensured disruption to the building’s occupants was kept extremely low whilst work took place.
Lee Rumble of Artic Building Services commented: “UCL made an excellent choice with Mitsubishi Electric’s R32 air conditioning units, which are stylish, sophisticated and highly energy efficient.
“We were able to install the wall mounted system in a timely and efficient manner, with minimal disruption to staff and students.”
Another benefit of the M Series is its quiet operation, ideal for use in a quiet study environment at UCL.
The M Series MSZ-LN air conditioning range was Mitsubishi Electric’s first product in its UK line-up to utilise R32 refrigerant. MSZ-LN units feature a built-in Wi-Fi interface, allowing for full control and monitoring via the MELCloud App, and a sophisticated i-see Sensor in the unit, which automatically monitors room occupancy, position and body temperatures to deliver bespoke comfort.
