Aerospace academy receives Gilberts ventilation

  • 12 Feb 2018

Gilberts Blackpool has supplied a natural ventilation solution for a new, £15.6m Lancashire-based aerospace training academy.

Opened by BAE Systems, The Academy for Skills & Knowledge (ASK), based in Salmesbury, will provide a world-class facility for apprentices and graduates.

In order to reach the BREEAM target of ‘very good’ , chief contractor ISG selected Gilberts to supply the natural ventilation in vital areas; classrooms, meeting and conference facilities and the aircraft hangar.

A combination of 180 Mistrale 75 units at 0.6m x 2.3m and six more at 1.8m x 11.0m have been included into the building façade, with Gilberts engineering every unit with its high performance WPZ glazed in weather louvres externally.

John Sandison, project manager for ISG’s UK Construction North business, talked about his passion for using companies based in that part of the UK, like Gilberts, whilst also praising its ability to design and manufacture bespoke products, particularly useful considering the size of this project.
