Paul Rosevear was recently specified to find a solution to protect an oil tank as part of a project at Plymouth Ferry Port.
With more than thirty years of experience in the roofing industry, Paul was the ideal choice for the complex job involving three steel oil tanks with an ongoing issue of corrosion. The tanks are subject to a lot of exposure due to their location at the port, therefore, the middle oil tank required protection for the top edge detail.
The flammable nature of oil made the project slightly more complicated, as the application of the product to the tank could not involve any form of heat or flames. It was therefore decided, that Hambleside Danelaw‘s Fast Flash was the ideal solution for the corroding edge detail.
A primer was first applied to the rusted areas of the tank, ensuring that Fast Flash would adhere properly. It was then cut into lengths of 800mm for ease of application to the 50m circumference of the tank. A J-roller was used to make sure the flashing had good contact with the surface and to take out any air.
Paul explained: “Fast Flash is very easy to apply and very sticky which helped. It had a neat and clean finish similar to lead and I would easily use this over other lead-replacement products on the market’.
Overall, the application took just five days and as a result, there are plans for the other two tanks to follow suit.
