Hush Acoustics takes part in SS Great Britain project

  • 11 Dec 2018

Hush Acoustics has recently been involved in a project at one of the most important historical ships, SS Great Britain, to improve the acoustics and thermal performance at a new exhibit.

Created by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, an engineering giant, in 1843, the SS Great Britain played an important part in history as the first iron steamer to cross the Atlantic. The ship is now a popular visitor attraction and museum ship in Bristol Harbour.

The team at SS Great Britain have been working to make the visitor experience even better with the creation of multiple new exhibits, including a ‘Brunel’s Mind’ exhibit to allows visitors to enter the mind of Isambard Brunel. Visitors enter into Brunel’s mind and face forward to see his views on his creations, however, there was a concern around the Reverberation times in this area.

Hush Acoustics specified its Hush Wall Covering for the exhibit area in black, a unique non-woven high-density polyester, targeting mid-range frequency sound to enable the audio presentation sound to be heard.

In addition to the acoustic values, the Hush wall covering is designed to improve the thermal performance of the wall it is placed upon, and also offers great aesthetic appeal. The Hush wall covering is a thin 10mm product and so it utilises little space, which was ideal for the room in which it was used.

The product was designed for use in classrooms and general education areas where noise reduction will enhance the learning experience. Due to the initial success, Hush wall covering is now used to improve general acoustics across the varying market sectors.
