Abloy UK has supplied PD Ports with the advanced electronic access control solution PROTEC² CLIQ to secure its key sites in the UK. The installation covers multiple PD Ports locations, highlighting the company’s commitment to innovation and security excellence.
PD Ports is one of the UK’s leading port groups and operates in various locations across the country, managing key gateways and handling millions of tonnes of cargo each year.
It plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of goods by sea, road and rail. With operations spanning port estates and warehouses, maintaining a secure and well-managed access control system is essential to daily operations and long-term resilience.
For many years, PD Ports relied on Abloy’s trusted mechanical products to secure areas such as perimeter gates and operational facilities, however with expanding operations and increasing complexity in access requirements, PD Ports wanted a more traceable and flexible solution.
Abloy specified PROTEC² CLIQ, which combined mechanical strength with electronic access management, giving PD Ports complete control of who can access each area and when.
CLIQ keys can be programmed or updated remotely, which ensures that permissions remain tightly controlled even across multiple locations. Each time a key is used it is recorded within CLIQ Web Manager, creating a detailed audit trail that enhances accountability and visibility for the security team. This also ensures that access permissions can be instantly withdrawn if keys are lost or misplaced, heightening the security of the environment.
With 112 PROTEC² CLIQ keys and 32 mechanical padlocks across the sites, the system is able to open both Abloy CLIQ electronic and Abloy mechanical locks, meaning minimal disruption to daily operations as there is no need to change the entire system to electronic.
The system protects warehouses containing high value goods, and it is used to secure its perimeter gates and remote access points, providing each environment with robust security.
The introduction of PROTEC² CLIQ has allowed PD Ports to integrate physical and digital access control, which has allowed the company to benefit from greater efficiency and peace of mind. The system in place is flexible and scalable, which means that PD Ports has the opportunity to expand the solution further in the future as needs change and grow.
