As part of a refurbishment project, Brett Martin’s Marlon CST Heatguard has been installed for the roof of a milking shed at Bloor’s Farm in Warrington, Cheshire.

Chosen by one of the farm’s owners, the innovative roofing solution, with advanced heat reflective pigment, has helped to introduce improved levels of light, while reducing energy costs and enhancing the cows’ welfare and productivity.

Owned by Andrew Bloor and son Matthew Bloor and home to a herd of 350 cows, Bloor’s Farm needed additional space, and brought in a second-hand building, which was modified and extended to act as a new milking shed. After learning about Marlon CST Heatguard, Matthew Bloor, selected the corrugated polycarbonate sheet for the roofing as it could introduce natural light and help regulate the shed’s temperature. The aim was to create a better environment for the livestock, supporting their health and improving both fertility rates and milk production.

The amount of daylight introduced by the Brett Martin solution not only improved light levels in the refurbished and repurposed shed, but to the surrounding sheds as well, making a truly positive impact across the farm. It has helped to create a bright and pleasant working environment for staff and without the need for any artificial lighting.

“We installed the Marlon CST Heatguard roof ourselves and it was extremely easy to fit. Since the shed has been finished, the health and wellbeing of our livestock has improved significantly which has resulted in a huge increase in milk yield. We have also been able to reduce our block calving period by two months, which has helped to improve efficiency and profitability of the farm.

Manufactured in the UK and developed with advanced heat reflective pigments, the Marlon CST Heatguard reduces solar transmissions by up to 68%, whilst achieving up to 36% light transmission to improve animal’s wellbeing and productivity, without the risk of excessive heat gain. 

Marlon CST Heatguard 6mm Triplewall polycarbonate sheets are eight times lighter than fibre cement sheeting and can be used as a complete roof covering or incorporated into cladding or profile roofing. Furthermore, Marlon CST Heatguard has the impact resistance and durability of standard polycarbonate sheeting, but with added insulation and rigidity due to its multiwall structure.
