Following the new Fire Safety (Residential Evacuation Plans) Regulations, which came into force on 6 April, Rob Norton, UK Director at PlanRadar, has shared commentary on the implications of the new requirements for building managers…
Rob comments: “The shift to person-centred evacuation planning is a positive step, but it significantly increases the operational burden on building managers.
“In practice, the challenge isn’t just identifying residents who may need assistance, it’s keeping that information accurate, accessible and consistently updated across teams. In larger buildings, this can quickly become unmanageable using manual processes alone.
“Without a centralised, real-time system for tracking resident needs and evacuation plans, there’s a real risk of gaps in compliance and confusion during an incident – precisely when clarity is most critical.”
