As a market leader in high-performance sealing systems for fire doors, Lorient has proudly supported Fire Door Safety Week since its launch in 2013.

Established by the British Woodworking Federation, Fire Door Safety Week was created in response to a legacy of fire door neglect. This nationwide awareness campaign shines a spotlight on the vital role that fire doors play in saving lives and protecting property in the event of a fire.

The Importance of Fire Doors

A fire door is an engineered safety device, forming a crucial part of passive fire protection in commercial, public, and multi-occupancy buildings. In everyday use, it functions like any door. But in the event of a fire, it performs a critical role: containing fire and smoke for a designated period of time, allowing safe evacuation, limiting property damage, buying time for emergency responders, and ultimately, saving lives.

A fire door is more than just a door – it’s a complete, tested assembly comprising:

– Door leaf
– Frame
– Glazing (if applicable)
– Intumescent fire & smoke seals
– Ironmongery, such as hinges, closers, locks & latches

Like fire alarms and extinguishers, fire doors require regular inspection and maintenance to perform as designed. Lorient’s high-performance sealing systems form an integral part of these life-saving assemblies.

Lorient’s Programme for Fire Door Safety Week 2025

This year, Lorient has planned an exciting programme of activity to mark the campaign:

– Tuesday 23 September 2025. Welcoming representatives from the Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service for a dedicated Fire Safety Day.

– Wednesday 24 September 2025. Hosting a range of leading companies, many of whom we met at the Fire Safety Event earlier this year.

– Thursday 25 September 2025. Sarah Lewis will present a live webinar – ‘The Importance of Fire Doors & Intumescent Seals’ as part of DCE’s Fire Prevention & Protection Day.

In addition, Lorient will be sharing technical insights and best practice advice on LinkedIn throughout the week, helping to raise awareness and promote excellence in fire door safety across the industry.

Fire Door Safety Week provides a crucial opportunity to highlight the life-saving role of correctly specified, installed and maintained fire doors, and Lorient is proud to once again play an active role in supporting the campaign.
